Convention 2012

District 9 encompasses the Niagara peninsula from Grimsby to Niagara Falls. As well, it includes the Dunnville Horticultural Society located in Haldimand County. There are thirteen societies in the District.

In District 9, we garden in a variety of conditions ranging in Zones from 5 to 6. Some areas are quite sheltered and many exotic plants are grown here by adventurous gardeners.

We have two meetings per year, one being our AGM in the spring and the other the Fall Forum, usually held on the last Saturday in September. Both meetings have speakers and flower shows. Information and schedules are available under "Meetings ".  Additionally, we hold a Presidents' Meeting on the last Saturday in October. Information is passed along at this meeting concerning events, Annual Reports etc.

District 9 is excited about hosting the 106th OHA Convention in 2012. The venue will be Niagara College at the Niagara on the Lake campus. Our committees began meeting in 2008 to begin planning for this event. The date is August 17 to 19, 2012. The theme is "Gardening Then and Now 1812-2012". This is the beginning of the three year Bicentennial Celebration of the War of 1812. Many events are scheduled in our area to coincide with this event. We are especially excited about our fundraiser which will be the sale of a rose hybridized especially for this event. It is a red rose and very disease resistant. Palatine Roses in Niagara on the Lake will be the grower for this rose. There was a contest to name this rose and it is called The 1812 Rose.  There is a picture of the rose below. Plantings at Niagara College showcase this gorgeous rose. See under Convention 2012 for your order form.
